When users design their own library: Rouen and Loupe Map
13 août 2025
At the library of Rouen, Loupe Map found a playful new use. What started as a way to guide patrons through shelves and spaces became a tool for imagining the library of tomorrow.
Rouen’s team wanted to give their community something special: a chance to redesign the library itself. With Loupe Map’s precision, high-fidelity design, and game-like feel — some said it looked like it came straight out of The Sims — patrons could drag, drop, and re-arrange the space as they wished.
Shelves were moved. Sofas shifted. Study areas swapped places. Dozens of alternative maps took shape, each reflecting a different vision of what a library could be.
The best part? The most appreciated map, the one that resonated most with the community, will soon become reality. Rouen is actually rebuilding part of its library based on the design chosen by its users.
It’s a beautiful example of what happens when technology doesn’t just serve logistics but sparks imagination. With Loupe Map, Rouen turned navigation into participation — and gave patrons a voice in shaping the library they love.
